Due to the fact that MS is an autoimmune disease that can debilitate a person, “There are very concrete ways that society stigmatizes people with chronic illnesses, including job or health insurance discrimination.” (Mohr D.C 2010, 27) For this reason, it is vital that school districts establish a Disability Playbook that will help execute effective strategies to accommodate qualified educators with Multiple Sclerosis.
The central tenets of the Disability Playbook that will help stimulate adequacy and satisfaction for educators with MS in the workplace are the hiring of a Director of Equity for Educators with Disabilities (DEED) and the implementation of an Educators with Disabilities Induction Programs (EDIP). These programs will span from the credentialing programs to the start of their educational careers. Most importantly, a post induction program that will help build the skill set of educators with MS that will afford them different avenues within the educational workforce. As a result, the Disability Playbook would make evident how educators with MS are to be protected by the decrees entitled to them.
